Description:

Are you aware that your pets are not being catered for in current disaster plans?

You would think that the authorities would have learned from the events of Hurricane Katrina and last years Victorian bushfires.

Yet at an animal management  conference on the14th Oct 2009, it became apparent that councils, who are responsible for local disaster plans, are not planning to allow pets to accompany their owners in emergency refuge centres.

Those that are making any provision at all, may provide crates at some distance from the human accommodation.

They do not plan for you to keep your pets with you.

If I were stressed out from the risk of bushfire, I wouldn't want to be separated from my animals, nor would I want them stressed by being left in a strange place, without me!

Councils do not think that this is an issue.

To change this situation, you need to let the councils know. Email or write to your local council and ask them to make provision for your pets to stay with you during evacuations.

Natural Disasters take many forms, floods, cyclones, bushfires etc and affect all of Australia. Many councils are working on their disaster planning now.

This problem exists everywhere. There have already been bushfires this year in NSW, Qld and WA and the Victorian bushfire season is about to begin.

ACT NOW, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

Tell all your friends about this issue and get them to contact their council immediately.
